The whip rule has again been brought to the fore at Sandown on Saturday with the winning jockey of the Zipping Classic ‘Glyn Schofield’ receiving a $1,000 fine for overuse of the whip.
Schofield rode Beautiful Romance to a narrow victory over Almoonqith in the feature at Sandown with a nose the winning margin, post race stewards fined Glyn Schofield for over use of the whip posing the question if it was the difference between winning and losing the race.
Schofield received a $1,000 fine for using the whip four times over the current limit before the 100m mark.
Controversy has surrounded the current whip rules with no clear cut repercussions outside of fines for jockeys who decide to do so.
Out of the same race Damian Lane also received a $1,000 fine for overuse of the whip aboard Big Orange.
