An apprentice jockey in Queensland has been handed a significant suspension after making a critical error during a race at Kilcoy on Thursday. Jade Metcalfe, a three-kilogram claimer, mistimed the race distance and made her move far too early in the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1900m.
Riding $6 betting sites contender Bean All Ova, Metcalfe pushed her horse forward around the home turn during the first lap and began using her whip, mistakenly believing she was nearing the finish. After crossing the winning post, she veered wide, only to realize the race was still ongoing. Following the race, Metcalfe admitted her mistake to the stewards, who subsequently issued her a five-week suspension.
