A dramatic incident unfolded at Carlisle during the 2m4f handicap hurdle when a ground staff worker narrowly avoided injury. The staff member had been preparing the starting tape but, as the race began, attempted to cross the track and was knocked over by the horse Euchan Falls, trained by Mike Smith. Thankfully, he escaped without major harm, and the clerk of the course, Harry Phipps, confirmed his stable condition.
The matter has been forwarded to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) for further consideration following an inquiry into the incident. Interviews were conducted with the clerk of the course, the ground staff member, the starters, and Gavin Sheehan, the rider of Euchan Falls.
Despite the incident, the race saw a victory for Zwicky, trained by Phil Kirby and ridden by Sean Quinlan, securing back-to-back wins for the horse.
