The biggest night of Greyhound Racing of the year is approaching at Sandown Park on Friday night where the Melbourne Cup Final is set to be run. We take a look at the Melbourne Cup Final as well as some of the undercard races on the night and we give our tips and bets.
SANDOWN PARK: RACE 1 (6:53PM AEDT)
Roper River Jake is a talented type and looks well placed to win the first on Melbourne Cup Night. The son of Kinloch Brae has reeled off some terrific results recently, running a particularly slick time over the 595m course here at Sandown Park late last month. He can settle close to the speed and finish over the top of his rivals.
Bet: 1 Roper River Jake
SANDOWN PARK: RACE 4 (7:50PM AEDT)
Blue Shadows was unlucky to be pipped late after leading a long way at this track and distance last week, but heβll be extremely difficult to run down in this race if he crosses the field effectively from Box 8. The son of Barcia Bale has typically contested races harder than this one and ran well in Group 1 company two starts back.
Bet: 8 Blue Shadows
SANDOWN PARK: RACE 6 (8:51PM AEDT) MELBOURNE CUP FINAL
This is an outstanding edition of the Melbourne Cup Final, but I have been extremely impressed with what Get It Gizmo has produced this season and he is up to winning at a nice price ($7.50 at publish). The son of Kinloch Brae doesnβt know how to run a bad race and has won each of his last two starts, one in Group 1 company and the other a quality heat for this race. He can make all of his own luck from the inside draw and will take beating.
Bet: 2 Get It Gizmo
SANDOWN PARK: RACE 8 (9:27PM AEDT)
Tornado Tears can simply never be written and is over the odds to score in the Bold Trease Final tonight. The champion son of champion sire Fernando Bale has continued top return pleasing performances and results this campaign and finishing fourth in Group 1 company two back, before winning his heat for this from out wide last week. Happy to take the $8 on offer at publish.
Bet: 4 Tornado Tears
SANDOWN PARK: RACE 9 (9:50PM AEDT)
Aston Wizard is well and truly worthy of his name and with a clear passage from Box 5 tonight, he should simply be winning the Super Vicgreys Final. The talented son of Fabregas has won his last three starts by a combined eight lengths, his last two in particularly slick time and a repeat of either effort would see him taking out this as well.
Bet: 5 Aston Wizard
