Aidan O’Brien has confirmed that undefeated stayer Jan Brueghel will enter quarantine this week ahead of a Melbourne Cup campaign.
This marks O’Brien’s first runner in the prestigious race since 2020, when Tiger Moth finished second, and follows his near-miss in 2017 with Johannes Vermeer.
Jan Brueghel, fresh off a Group 1 St Leger victory at Doncaster, is part of the final shipment of European raiders, including Willie Mullins’ Vauban and Absurde.
O’Brien expressed confidence in his stayer, stating, “He’s come out of the St Leger very well… everyone is happy.”
Jan Brueghel’s odds have shortened from $21 to $13 for the 2024 Melbourne Cup following the announcement.
