Alligator Blood’s racing future hangs in the balance

Group 1 champion Alligator Blood may still have a racing future, showing remarkable progress in his recovery from a pastern injury initially thought to be career-ending. Scheduled scans at the end of the month will determine if a return to the track is possible.

Since sustaining the injury, Alligator Blood has shown significant improvement, aided by a water walker program at Vision Equine, which helps manage his energy levels without stressing the injury. Owner Jeff Simpson describes him as feeling rejuvenated, “almost like a three-year-old again.”

Alligator Blood is also receiving alternative treatment with Tvati oil, a traditional remedy from the Cook Islands.

While the scans will be decisive, Simpson remains prepared for any outcome. “We still don’t know where he is at,” he said. “He could retire tomorrow, and it wouldn’t worry me.”
