Melbourne Cup winner Almandin has been posted the early favourite for the 2016 Zipping Classic.
Almandin is one of four entries for owner Lloyd Williams in Saturday’s race named after his horse Zipping who won the event four times when it was known as the Sandown Classic.
Macedon Lodge, the home of Almandin, has also entered Assign, Bondi Beach and Gallante in the 2400m Group Two weight-for-age contest.
A decision will be made after the quartet gallops on Tuesday if all, or any, line up.
Almandin is the $2.70 favourite in first markets over three-year-old So Si Bon at $5 with Melbourne Cup runners Big Orange and Who Shot Thebarman on the next line at $6.
Bondi Beach is a $9 chance with Gallante at $21 and Assign at $26.
So Si Bon, fourth in the Victoria Derby, has also been nominated for the Sandown Guineas and is on the third line of betting at $5.50 with Morton’s Fork heading the market at $3.50.
