Star International stayer Anthony Van Dyck had showed signs of lameness after arriving in Australia and was treated with a nerve blocker prior to the Caulfield Cup where he ran second, according to media reports.
The news comes ahead of Wednesday’s announcement of the findings from Racing Victoria and the Victorian Racing Club’s international injury review.
Anthony Van Dyck broke down in the Melbourne Cup after suffering a fractured fetlock and was humanely euthanised.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained galloper run an eye catching second in the Caulfield Cup ahead of his Melbourne Cup run even though it was said the nerve blocker was administered prior to that run.
Multiple media reports say Anthony Van Dyck was given a nerve blocker on October 9th, which was shortly after arriving in Australia.
The investigation into Anthony Van Dyck’s death during the Melbourne Cup is separate to the international injury review, with both reports set to be released today.
