Apprentice jockey Ivy Lam airlifted to hospital after fall

Apprentice jockey Ivy Lam was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital after sustaining a head injury in a race fall, which led to an early end to Mondayโ€™s Gawler meeting.

Lam was aboard Jacobโ€™s Gate in the seventh race, when the horse seemed to stumble and abruptly dropped back through the field at the 700m mark.

The 23-year-old jockey was unseated during the incident and quickly received medical attention from on-site paramedics.

As a result, the remainder of the event was cancelled before the final race.

Further updates are expected soon.
