Royal Ascot star Asfoora is set to return to the track, with the Irwin Stakes at Morphettville on April 12 likely to be her comeback race.
The six-year-old mare recently participated in a jumpout at Ararat, with trainer Henry Dwyer expressing satisfaction with her performance.
Dwyer noted that Asfoora’s jumpout was more about a light workout rather than pushing her to the limit.
“She’s done heaps of work so it (jumpout) wasn’t about screwing her down, it was more a trip away from home and getting the edge of her with a nice gallop,” Dwyer explained to Racing.com.
“She’s been off the scene for a while, but she has come back nice. She’s never been a star trial horse and we’ve rarely let her go in trials as she always goes around on the bridle as she did today.
“We’ll go to Adelaide and go fresh next week in the Irwin Stakes, weight-for-age and 1100 metres is perfect first-up.
“Then, hopefully it’s all systems go for the Robert Sangster.
“The Sangster is 1200 metres and that’s always been a bit of a sticking point for her as we never really thought she’d get 1200 metres. But, at level weights against her own sex, if she’s ever going to get it, it will be there.”
After a successful European campaign, including a victory in the King’s Stand Stakes, Asfoora has not raced in Australia since finishing fourth in the 2024 Galaxy.
If she performs well, Asfoora may return to Europe to defend her Royal Ascot title later this year.
