Trainer Gavin Bedggood is set to saddle two contenders, Windstorm and Just Folk, in Saturday’s inaugural $1 million Supernova (1400m) at Pakenham, with both eight-year-old geldings offering unique stories and solid credentials.
Windstorm, a former Perth star for owner Bob Peters, is fresh off a carefully tailored preparation.
Racing in the Cape Schanck Racing slot, the gelding skipped the Kevin Heffernan Stakes due to heavy track conditions but boasts a strong first-up record.
“The key to Windstorm is that his form early in his preparations is very good. He’s flying. I’m very happy with him,” Bedggood told racing.com.
Just Folk, competing in the Southside Racing slot, has made a remarkable recovery from life-threatening colic surgery in June.
The versatile galloper has amassed $620,000 in prize money under Bedggood, highlighted by three Group 3 wins.
“I wouldn’t say it was a target race… but he’s had a faultless campaign,” Bedggood explained.
Beau Mertens has been entrusted with the ride aboard Windstorm, while Jamie Mott will partner with Just Folk for the inaugural slot race.
