Star mare Bella Nipotina is set to renew her rivalry with Imperatriz in Saturday’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Last year, Imperatriz made a splash in the same race, starting a winning streak that included six victories.
Bella Nipotina’s managing owner, Michael Christian, acknowledges the challenge but is eager for the showdown.
Despite finishing fifth in the Newmarket Handicap, Bella Nipotina’s effort was commendable, particularly given the weight she carried.
The mare is also being considered for The Galaxy at Rosehill, depending on track conditions.
Bella Nipotina’s future includes a slot in the Quokka at Ascot and a possible start in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick.
