
QRIC Stewards have found participants Mr Mark Currie and his son Mr Ben Currie guilty of a breach of AR240(2): Prohibited substance in sample taken from horse at race meeting after the analysis of a sample taken from End Assembly, which raced at Eagle Farm on Saturday 17 December 2022.
When penalties were handed down on Monday 22 May 2023, Mr Ben Currie received an 18-month disqualification and Mr Mark Currie was issued with a $15,000 fine. QRIC Stewards have disqualified End Assembly from its first placing in Race 8: The Channel Seven Gold Edition Plate 1200m at Eagle Farm on 17 December 2022 and direct the placings to be amended accordingly.
As there are avenues open for appeal under the new Racing Appeals Panel, the Commission cannot make any further comment on the matter at this time.
Ben Currie was working as a stablehand for his father as part of his reintegration into racing.
