Benedetta chases riches in the Inglis Sprint

Trainer Jason Warren has no concerns about a drop in distance for Benedetta as the filly chases a fourth straight win.

After victories at Cranbourne and two on the Hillside track at Sandown, Benedetta heads to Flemington for the first time to run in the Inglis Sprint (1200m) on Saturday.

Benedetta’s last two victories were at 1300m, but Warren said the filly had freshened up nicely and is coming off a jump-out at Balnarring last week where she lined-up against Giga Kick.

“It is a pretty deep race as you would expect for $750,000,” Warren said of Saturday’s race.

“We’ve got half-a-dozen horses coming down from Sydney with really solid form, but our girl is progressive, and she has earned her spot there.

“She gets in nicely at the weights and she has trained on really well given we have freshened her up.

“We gave her a soft jump-out and she trialled up really well at Balnarring and she goes to Flemington with her tail up after a couple of solid wins.”

Warren believes Benedetta will relish the high-pressure 1200m contest on Saturday.

He said if he had been looking for a longer race, he may have considered the Group 3 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Sandown last Saturday.

Warren added drawing the outside barrier is a positive rather than a hindrance as it will allow the filly to sit off the speed and show her finish.

“I think 1200 will suit her perfectly,” Warren said.

“If I was looking for further, I would have been tempted to run her last Saturday in the 1400-metre for fillies and that probably would have presented a softer option than what we run into on Saturday.

“But I think the 1200 metres will allow her to show that big finish she’s got.”
