Champion jockey Blake Shinn has been suspended for 10 meetings due to careless riding at Caulfield. The suspension, starting after his Sydney commitments on Saturday, will run from September 29 to October 7, ruling Shinn out of the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes Day at Flemington on October 5.
Shinn was penalised for mid-range careless riding in the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes, where his mount, Run Harry Run, caused interference to Another Wil, ridden by Jamie Kah. The incident occurred 300m from the finish when Shinn’s horse shifted, bumping Kah’s mount.
Shinn, who pleaded guilty, explained his actions: “If I knew she was there I wouldn’t have tried to correct it… I wasn’t aware she was there until I heard the call.” Chief steward Rob Montgomery questioned Shinn’s move back to the rail, stating: “That’s when Jamie gets into all sorts of strife.”
