Queensland champion Buffering will have a race day gallop before he makes first appearance at the Magic Millions carnival in what is his seventh season of racing.
The eight-year-old’s spring carnival netted Group One wins in the Moir Stakes and Winterbottom Stakes and he shows no signs slowing down.
Trainer Robert Heathcote said Buffering had done well since his Winterbottom success in Perth on November 21 and was on target to run at the Gold Coast on January 9.
“He will gallop between races at Doomben on Wednesday and that should bring him along nicely,” Heathcote said.
The trainer has not yet decided which million dollar race Buffering runs in at the Gold Coast. The Magic Millions QTIS Open (1200m) is likely but Heathcote also has the Magic Millions Sprint (1100m) as a back-up.
Provided Buffering comes through the Magic Millions in good condition he will then head to Dubai and Hong Kong in the coming months.
A $22,000 yearling in 2009, Buffering has earned more than $5.8 million from his 50 starts which include 18 wins and many minor stakes placings.
Among Australia’s sprint stars, only the unbeaten Black Caviar and world traveller Takeover Target have earned more than Buffering.
