Winter carnival options are on the horizon for Garibaldi if he can extend his winning sequence at Doomben.
Garibaldi is a $1.80 favourite with TAB fixed odds to make it four wins in a row in the BRC Like Nowhere Else In BNE Plate (1200m) on Saturday.
Trainer Tony Gollan hinted the winter will be the focus for Garibaldi if his hot streak of form continues.
“If he can do what we think he can in this race then we can cool our jets and see what our options are with him in a couple of months,” Gollan said.
“This is a big step up. It’s a very competitive race with good depth and although it’s a long way away from being carnival quality, it’s a good test for him.”
At his most recent outing at Doomben on January 23, Garibaldi circled the field on the home turn to power clear from his rivals in effortless fashion to win.
Carnival plans are also likely to be on the drawing board for exciting filly Miami Fleiss, a $1.45 favourite to win the BRC Membership Handicap (1200m) on Saturday.
The daughter of Spirit Of Boom created a huge impression when she scored by seven lengths on debut at the Sunshine Coast on January 22.
“I didn’t expect her to be as dominant as she was,” Gollan said.
“You never have that thought in your mind, you just want them to execute well, which she did.”
In an ominous sign for her rivals, Gollan said Miami Fleiss had improved considerably since her first start.
“She’s improved in her work and in her self, she’s better in the coat,” he said.
“She’s all over a better filly than what we saw at the Sunshine Coast.”
Miami Fleiss led all the way to win at the Sunshine Coast but Gollan believes she can settle off the speed if the need arises on Saturday.
“She’s shown speed in jump outs and she’s also taken a trail in behind them so she’s not a one-trick pony,” he said.
“It doesn’t really concern me what the others want to do.”
Gollan has a strong hand at Doomben and will also saddle up two other pre-post favourites in Leadership Spill ($3.10) and Socialising ($2.15).
