Reigning Victorian Horse of the Year and Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup winner Without A Fight has returned to light work under saddle, marking a significant milestone in his recovery from a tendon injury. Co-trainer Sam Freedman provided an encouraging update on the horseโs progress, noting that Without A Fight has shown enthusiasm and is striding out well.
Currently back at Pinecliff after extensive rehab, Without A Fight is alternating between treadmill sessions and light riding. The next month will be pivotal in determining his targets for the 2024 racing season. While a Spring Carnival campaign is on the table, Freedman emphasised that no decisions will be rushed. Options include defending his Melbourne Cup title, targeting the Cox Plate, or exploring international races later in the year, such as the Japan Cup or Hong Kong International meeting.
Royal Champion, also trained by Freedman, is being prepared for a potential spring campaign with a focus on mile-to-2000-meter races during Cup Week. Meanwhile, Yulongโs Group 1-winning mare Place du Carrousel is set to trial at Cranbourne before resuming in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes.
The next few weeks will be crucial in determining Without A Fight’s path forward, with the stable carefully managing his return to ensure heโs ready for a strong Spring campaign.
