Chris Munce should get an early indication of his hopes of another big Magic Millions carnival when Scathing runs at the Gold Coast.
Scathing has top weight of 59.5kg and the outside barrier of nine runners in Saturday’s QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1400m).
As a jockey, Munce won the 2YO Classic on three occasions and as a trainer he won last season’s Magic Millions Guineas with Boomsara.
Scathing cost $100,000 at the Magic Millions Sales and the Guineas is his early target this season.
Munce said Scathing had done a good job in his first campaign and he had deliberately extended it to this Saturday.
“He overcame difficulties to win his first start and there have been a couple of other winners to come out of that race,” Munce said.
“Then he was second to Alligator Blood last time and that horse is running in a stakes race in Sydney next week.
“It is pretty good form and I think he is a Millions Guineas type horse.
“But I want to give him a look at the Gold Coast and try him at 1400 metres.”
Munce said Scathing would have a short break after Saturday and then be prepared for the Magic Millions in January.
The trainer also has consistent Snoopy running at the Gold Coast on Saturday when he will contest the Ross MacLean Open Handicap (1400m).
“We haven’t had much luck with barriers on Saturday as he drew the outside as well,” Munce said.
“He will need some luck now. Pity because his last-start second was very good and he is getting to his top.”
