Classique Legend set to turn HK form around

Classique Legend wins The Everest 2020

Zac Purton has given the Classique Legend, the 2020 The Everest winner for trainer Les Bridge, a big thumbs up as the big grey prepares for his return to action at Sha Tin on Easter Monday in the Group 2 Sprint Cup over 1200m.

Classique Legend left Australia’s shores for Hong Kong after his The Everest win to join the stable of Casper Fownes where he initially turned in a very disappointing performance when trailing home some thirteen lengths off Danon Smash in the Group 1, Hong Kong Sprint on December 13.

Classique Legend was then sent to Conghua for a break. On March 23, Classique Legend returned to score an eye-catching trial win over 1000m in a run which indicated he was once again raring to go.

β€œHe’s pretty good. He’s had a trial down here at Sha Tin and he’s had plenty of time now to acclimatise,” said Purton, who will partner the former Australian speedster for the first time in a race for Caspar Fownes.

β€œI was happy with his attitude the other day – he’s a real dude. I liked the way he stretched out and finished that trial off. It appeared he was moving well, and I think that’s important with him.

β€œIf he’s fit and happy and well, he’s going to deliver. He seems like he’s in a pretty good frame of mind.”
