Craig Williams could be kicked off Giga Kick by connections

Speculation surrounds the potential replacement of champion jockey Craig Williams as the rider of last year’s The Everest winner, Giga Kick.

Despite winning five of nine rides and securing major titles like the Group 1 All Aged Stakes and Doomben 10,000, Williams’s position is now in question.

The speculation arose after Giga Kick finished third in the recent Group 2 McEwen Stakes at The Valley.

Racing manager Rod Douglas hinted at a possible jockey change, casting doubt on Williams’s future with the horse.

“It’s Jonathan Munz’s horse and he makes the call on who rides the horse,” Williams said.

“As far as I’m aware, I’m riding the horse until I hear otherwise from Jonathan.”

Williams, who has 30 years of experience in the racing industry, remains focused on his performance and family life.

“I’ve been riding for 30 years and racing is a very reactive, a very emotional sport. I just worry about what I do, riding the horses and being a father.”

The final decision will be made by Giga Kick’s owner, Johnathan Munz.

“Maybe we’ll all know in the next 48 hours,” Williams concluded.
