Damien Oliver has been banned from riding for 20 meetings following a reckless riding charge by Victoria Racing Stewards.
Oliver was issued with the suspension for his ride on Flying Artie in today’s Blue Sapphire Stakes. Stewards claimed Damien Oliver had turned his horses head out and made heavy contact with Dean Yendall’s mount Ken’s Dream.
Oliver, who went on to win the Blue Sapphire, argued his case to stewards but was unable to escape the charge.
The suspension will see Oliver miss Cox Plate and Derby day but resume riding on Melbourne Cup day. He will however be able to ride on Caulfield Cup day this Saturday.
Reports suggest Oliver will appeal the suspension.
