Serpentine, the eight-year-old gelding by Galileo and winner of the 2020 Epsom Derby, has been retired from racing.
The decision was confirmed by part-owner Nick Williams, following the horse’s final race in the Perth Cup on New Year’s Day.
Serpentine retires with over $1.4 million in prizemoney and a record of five wins from 34 starts.
His career highlights include a stunning five-length victory in the Epsom Derby under Aidan O’Brien, where his bold front-running tactics etched his name into racing history.
After moving to Australia in 2022, Serpentine joined the Williams family’s stable, initially under Rob Hickmott and later Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
He added the 2024 Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes to his achievements and competed in major events like the Sydney Cup and two Melbourne Cups.
