Farnan out of Roman Consul Stakes with foot issue

Golden Slipper winner Farnan has suffered another setback on the road to The Everest with a bruised foot ruling him out of the Roman Consul Stakes.

Tulloch Lodge co-trainer Adrian Bott advised stewards on Wednesday that the colt had been treated after he was found to be mildly lame and he was not paid up for Saturday’s Group Two Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick.

The Roman Consul was scheduled to be Farnan’s final lead up run to the $15 million The Everest on October 17.

The three-year-old has had a chequered spring, his only start a controversial fifth to Rothfire in The Run To The Rose on September 12 when he went too hard in front and tired.

Late last month the stable advised stewards Farnan was treated for a minor infection to his off-fore leg, the same leg that has caused his latest trouble.

However, he appeared to be back on track when he stretched out nicely in an exhibition gallop at Randwick last Wednesday

The stable has told stewards they are hopeful the issue will resolve quickly and that Farnan won’t miss any work.

The three-year-old will need to pass a fitness test before he is cleared to take his place in the elite Everest field.

Farnan’s omission has left a field of six for the Roman Consul Stakes headed by impressive first-up winner Wild Ruler and talented colt Doubtland.
