Yes, Sydney Autumn is ‘Where Stories Are Told’ and already the ‘story telling’ juvenile Fireburn is at $1.40 with Sportsbet for the Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes on Saturday.
In looking to be the seventh Sydney 2YO Triple Crown recipient, Fireburn first won the $5m Longines Golden Slipper Stakes of 1200m, and then the $1m Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes at 1400m.
With the third leg Champagne Stakes to be run on a Heavy rated track, Fireburn won the Golden Slipper Stakes on a Heavy 9 track, with the Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes also on a Heavy 9.
In fact, Fireburn previously won the Sweet Embrace Stakes on a Heavy 10 track, and prior to a six week freshener, had won twice at Royal Randwick on Good 4 tracks, over 1150m and 1200m.
Again to be ridden by former Sydney champion Brenton Avdulla, who in both previous starts won coming from behind along the inside rail, and has barrier 6 of 7 runners in the Champagne.
And what ‘victory salute’ can we witness from Brenton Avdulla, who has amassed in $6,500 in official fines, and in 2016 simply ‘took a bow’ when winning on Lasqueti Spirit in the Victoria Oaks.
In not long returning to race riding following a fractured neck injury Brenton Avedulla finished second on seven points to Nash Rawiller in the Nathan Berry Medal held over The Championships.
Trained by now established Warwick Farm trainer Gary Portelli, Fireburn is raced by the Laurel Oak Bloodstock and partners, having been bred by Louis Mihalyka’s Laurel Oak Bloodstock.
The winner of five of her six starts and over $3.77m in prizemoney, she’s by the duel Gr1 sprinter Rebel Dane, also trained by Gary Portelli and for the owners and breeder Laurel Oak Bloodstock.
With Rebel Dane now joining the select stallion roster of the historic Widden Stud, Fireburn is the first foal of the winning So You Think mare Mull Over, a half-sister to the stakes winner Galizani.
A $22,000 purchase by Laurel Oak Bloodstock at the 2018 National Broodmare Sale, Mull Over is from a Zabeel mare, with her three dams being by Danehill, Vaguely Noble and Raise A Native.
At $4.20 is second-favourite She’s Extreme, placed second in the Inglis Sires, with the Fernhill Mile winner Williamsburg at $9 and $13 for the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes hero Letsrollthedice.
Priced at $5 for the wfa Schweppes All-Aged Stakes of 1400m is the Anthony Freedman ‘wet-tracker’ Forbidden Love who will be ridden Hugh Bowman and has drawn 16 of a final field of 17.
A last start 1½ length fourth in The Star Doncaster Mile, she won the George Ryder Stakes of 1500m at her previous start having also taken out the Canterbury Stakes and Guy Walter Stakes.
A $150,000 purchase by Richard Freedman at the 2019 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, she’s sired by All Too Hard from the USA bred stakes placed winning More Than Ready mare Juliet’s Princess.
Also at $5 is the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained 3yo In The Congo, now 1400m having been placed in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint and The Galaxy over 1100 and 1200m on heavy tracks.
The be ridden by Tim Clark from 10, he won the Golden Rose on a Good 4 track, and its Gai Waterhouse with five victories who’s the most successful trainer of the All-Aged Stakes.
Sitting one win ahead of her farther TJ Smith, and equal with Maurice McCarten and Tom Lamond, it’s the might of Tulloch Lodge that has headlined the Sydney Autumn Carnival for over 70 years
At $4.50 is the Annabel Neasham trained Mo’unga for Tommy Berry in gate 10 having been a last start second in the Futurity Stakes, and in August he defeated Verry Elleegant in the Winx Stakes.
Sired by seven times NZ Champion Sire Savabeel, Annabel Neasham and Tony Fung paid $1m for his full-brother at the Karaka 2022 Sale, from the Gr3 placed winning O’Reilly mare Chandelier.
