Flashy victory for Right To Party

Anthony Freedman admits that it has taken time to find the key to Right To Party and in a preparation that has delivered three-straight victories, they might just now have got the hang of her.

Right To Party, ridden by Jye McNeil, stormed to the line late from last to first in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington to win by a one-length margin as the $3.90 betting app favourite overrunning the Tony Gollan-trained Brisbane visitor Zarastro ($4.40) in the last 50-metres.

Racing consistently at black-type level, it was not until this round of outings that Anthony and co-trainer son Sam seemed to, in their minds, get it right.

“We liked her from day one but she just wasn’t doing it and we were probably training her wrong,” Anthony said.

“To Sam’s credit, he’s turned this mare around.”

Now with three wins in four starts at Flemington, sticking to what is proving to be a successful formula is just what the training pair are keen to maintain.

“She is obviously great up the straight and a bigger field will suit her, too,” he added.

“If she can get into one of those big sprints, she could potentially do some damage right down in the weights.

“She’s got into the winning habit now and obviously the races down the straight have really opened doors for her.”

With wider gaps between runs suiting the four-year-old mare, another outing at Flemington could beckon on Makybe Diva Stakes Day on September 14.

“She may only have three runs between now and the end of the spring,” Anthony said.

“I wouldn’t be going anywhere else at the moment.”
