Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori has made a surprising decision to abandon his retirement plans, opting instead to extend his career as a full-time US-based jockey.

The decision comes on the back of Dettori’s memorable farewell tour, with the spotlight on his commendable performance at York’s Ebor festival.

Speaking about the change of heart, Dettori remarked, “I didn’t expect this year to be so successful. The call of America is too strong, especially after the good time I had there over the winter.”

Reflecting on his initial intentions, he shared, “When setting out to retire, I never imagined this year would rival some of my peak years, perhaps even surpassing my 2019 form.”

The length of his American stint is still up in the air, with Dettori musing, “It could be three months. Or three years. Time will tell.”

And for fans hoping to see him race on British turf again? Dettori left us with a teaser, stating, “I’ll revisit the idea of riding in Britain when the time is right. As of now, everything’s up in the air. We’ll see.”
