Michael and Richard Freedman are assembling a handy team for the upcoming carnival

They didn’t get the desired result with Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside first-up, but Michael and Richard Freedman have plenty to look forward to this spring.

Stay Inside kicked off his three-year-old season with a fifth in Saturday’s San Domenico Stakes at Kembla Grange with jockey Tommy Berry offering the shifty track as a possible excuse for the performance.

Michael Freedman will see how the colt comes through the run before deciding his next move, but the stable has no shortage of depth with Forbidden Love, Tiger Of Malay and Prime Star all signalling they have returned in great order with bold performances at Randwick earlier this month.

Prime Star finished fifth to Private Eye in the Show County Quality on August 21 and the Freedmans are weighing up options in Sydney and Melbourne for him next weekend.

“I thought he was super (first-up). Had he drawn a slightly better gate where he could have been ridden a couple of lengths closer, he might have made it quite interesting,” Freedman said.

“Prime Star will probably run here in the Tramway or at Moonee Valley in a Listed race there with a view to aiming him up for a race like the Rupert Clark at Caulfield third-up.”

Forbidden Love will have her next start a week later in the Sheraco Stakes (1200m) while Tiger Of Malay, who beat subsequent Ming Dynasty Quality winner Coastwatch in the Up And Coming Stakes, is likely to head to The Run To The Rose on the Sheraco program.

Glistening, who tired late when sixth to Swift Witness first-up in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), is set to chase targets south of the border due to a lack of short-course sprint races for fillies during the Sydney spring.

“I think she’s best suited around 1000 to 1100 metres and given the lack of opportunities for those sort of fillies in Sydney at this time of year – because all roads lead towards the Flight Stakes – we may look at sending her down to Melbourne and picking out a couple of fillies’ races over the shorter distances,” Freedman said.
