Unbeaten three-year-old Beltoro will be set for the Group One Australian Guineas in the Autumn.
Beltoro was an impressive winner at Flemington in Saturday’s Lexus Legends Plate over 1600m to remain unbeaten in his two career starts, prompting trainer Robert Hickmott to target the horse at a G1 preparation during the Autumn.
“Mentally and physically he’s coping extremely well with his prep,” Hickmott said on RSN927 on Sunday.
“There should be another run in him and if he happened to win that we’d probably give him a little break and obviously set him for the Australian Guineas if he keeps winning.”
Hickmott is planning to run the horse third up at Caulfield on Boxing Day over 1400m in the Super VOBIS Three Years-Old BM70 Handicap before giving the horse a short spell prior to his Autumn campaign.
“We’ll probably be at the top end of the weights there but if there’s another run in him we’ll give him another run and then give him that short break.”
The 2021 Australian Guineas will be run on the 27th February at Flemington.
