A canny purchase in the UK is already paying off for Gai Waterhouse.

Gai Waterhouse’s European holiday was not all just about laying back and enjoying the sunshine as some astute work was also done at the bloodstock sales.

One purchase, a three-year-old filly by sire Frontiersman, delivered a victory on Saturday at Newmarket in England to send her off to Australia on a winning note.

Asian Daze was bought in partnership by Waterhouse at the Goffs London Sale for £200,000 (AU$382,000) prior to Royal Ascot in June where the filly then finished outside of the placings in the Sandringham Stakes over 1600-metres.

Saturday win at Newmarket over 1400-metres at $10 under the care of trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam takes her record to four wins in 12 starts.

Chapple-Hyam will now send Asian Daze to Australia and likely with higher aims.

“She battled well, enjoyed the track and the drop back to seven furlongs,” Chapple-Hyam said.

“I’m very pleased and honoured to be training her for the famous Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse.

“She will now go into quarantine and out to Gai in Sydney.

“I said to Gai hopefully you’ll wake up with a number one on your phone messages.”

Australian-born but based at Newmarket, Chapple-Hyam is also no stranger to Australian racing having brought three horses over in search of Melbourne springtime success.

Yellowstone finished 16th in the 2008 Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) before succumbing to injury before the Melbourne Cup, Mull Of Killough finished out of the placings in the 2013 Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) before filling fourth place in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m – now Champions Mile), and Kaspersky who was later trained by Michelle Payne.
