In a candid revelation, Tom Magnier, Coolmore Australia boss, disclosed the harrowing ordeal faced by champion mare Winx during her first foaling in 2020.

Despite facing near-death circumstances, Winx’s resilience shone as her Pierro filly fetched a record-breaking $10 million at the Inglis’ Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

Magnier hailed it as a miraculous journey, where Winx defied odds after complications from her initial pregnancy, resulting in a deceased foal.

The Coolmore team’s dedication and the owners’ patience were pivotal in Winx’s recovery and subsequent pregnancy.

Magnier equated the thrill of selling the filly to winning a Group 1 race, emphasising friend and client Debbie Kepitis’s determined bid, reminiscent of Chris Waller’s pressure during Winx’s races.

The acquisition marked a triumph for Kepitis, showcasing her family’s longstanding relationship with Coolmore.
