An untimely illness has derailed Victorian filly Cavalry Girl’s plans to compete in Saturday’s $2 million Inglis Millennium at Randwick. After a convincing win at Flemington in mid-January, Tom Dabernig’s filly traveled to Sydney last week to prepare for the lucrative restricted race, which is open only to graduates of an Inglis Sale. However, she presented with mucus after a workout on Monday morning, forcing connections to withdraw her from this weekend’s event.
Managing owner Joe O’Neill, who purchased the daughter of Bivouac for $110,000 at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, said Cavalry Girl could still target feature two-year-old races in the coming months. “She had a cough coming off the track this morning,” O’Neill told racing.com. “We scoped her and she’s got some mucus happening, so we’ve decided to back off her. We’ll give her a few easy days and then (will) rescope her on Friday. We’re looking at our options about where we go with her from there, but I’ll leave that up to Tom. She’s very good, and the form around her is as good as it is in Victoria.”
Cavalry Girl is currently rated $26 in the Blue Diamond Stakes markets with online betting sites.
