It Is Written has broken through for an overdue win with victory in the final race of 2016 at Moonee Valley.
Victory in Saturday’s William Hill Handicap (1000m) was It Is Written’s first since winning over 1200m at Moonee Valley in February 2015.
Ridden by Dylan Dunn, It Is Written ($16) scored by a half-length from $5.50 equal favourite Beau Rada with Sunday Escape ($6) the same margin away third.
It Is Written’s victory completed a double for trainer Robbie Griffiths after Roman Fizz in the Quest Moonee Valley Handicap.
Stable spokesman Don Healy said it was pleasing to see It Is Written back in winning form, especially at Moonee Valley where Saturday’s win was his eighth victory at the track.
“He just loves Moonee Valley and sprouts another leg here,” Healy said.
“That’s his eighth win here but his first over 1000 metres.
“Moonee Valley in December, there’s no better place.”
Healy said It Is Written would return to Moonee Valley on January 21 for a similar class race, but this time at 1200m.
Damien Oliver and Michael Walker were each suspended on careless riding charges during the meeting.
Walker was outed for eight meetings following his ride on Millinery in the Get Wines Direct Handicap while Oliver was suspended for 11 meetings after riding the unlucky Galaxy Raider in the Simpson Construction Handicap.
Both riders start their suspensions following Flemington’s meeting on Sunday.
