Italian jockey Stefano Cherchi suffered a head injury in a fall at Canberra on Wednesday during the Affinity Electrical Technologies Class 1 Plate.
Alongside Jeff Penza and Shaun Guymer, Cherchi was dislodged from his mount, Hasime, at the 800m mark.
Racing NSW confirmed his injury and stated he received on-track treatment for about an hour before hospitalisation.
Chairman of stewards Jim Walshe mentioned Guymer and Penza appeared uninjured, with Guymer experiencing shoulder soreness.
Fortunately, the horses involved weren’t seriously harmed.
Cherchi, who apprenticed in the UK under Marco Botti, has secured two NSW wins since riding in Australia.
