Jaja Chaboogie a blistering winner in the Carpet Charge

The Julie Richards-trained Jaja Chaboogie bounced back to his best when letting rip down the outside to pick up his rivals and take out the second edition of the $109,000 Ladbrokes Carpet Charge (1009m).

Not favoured by the market after suffering a heavy defeat in the Listed Conquering Stakes, the seven-year-old was kept on the fresh side for the sprint feature and appreciated a return to the Synthetic track, having scored at Devonport earlier in the campaign.

Winning jockey Troy Baker was conscious not to have his mount in a position where she was going to receive kickback and after getting beaten for early speed elected to settle three-wide towards the tail.

“She ran huge in the Newmarket and going into the Conquering we were very confident, her work was good but that storm came and it just put her out of play,” Turner said.

“I didn’t want to have that horse’s confidence shot if she got a bit of kickback, so I just sat that little bit wider and I waited until we straightened before I pushed the button on her.”

“This horse won a Group 3 race (Vamos Stakes). On her day she’s the best horse in the field, so I knew she’d pick them up.”

Once again, the race proved to be a hit with trainers and the concept a winner for sporting clubs in the region.

Following on from last year’s inauguration, 11 lucky clubs were drawn a runner for the race and this year it was the Turners Beach Cricket Club who took home the spoils of $10,000.
