Fresh off a narrow defeat aboard Romantic Warrior in the Dubai Turf, James McDonald has focused his attention on Sydney’s upcoming races, beginning with a Monday morning trial at Warwick Farm on Broadsiding.
The star jockey reunited with the Rosehill Guineas winner in a soft 1200-metre trial performance, where McDonald sat Broadsiding in fifth place before urging him home to finish just behind the placegetters.
It’s expected that Broadsiding will skip this Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes and instead target the 1400-metre Group 1 All Aged Stakes the following week.
McDonald, a key player on Day 2 of The Championships, will also ride Via Sistina in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Fangirl in the Queen Of The Turf, and possibly Leica Lucy in the Australian Oaks.
He is also booked for rides on Autumn Glow and Tempted in Group 2 races but has yet to confirm his mount for the Sydney Cup.
