Jamie Kah secures 2024 Melbourne Cup ride

Jamie Kah has been confirmed to ride Point King in the upcoming Melbourne Cup, as announced by the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable.

Last month, Kah guided the six-year-old gelding to victory in the Group 3 Archer Stakes (2500m), securing him a ballot exemption for the prestigious 3200m Melbourne Cup, which takes place on the first Tuesday of November.

Point King, a lightly raced contender, will carry just 50.5kg in the Cup and is currently listed as the $11 third favourite with online betting sites.

While Kah has been sidelined due to a suspension, Ben Malham stepped in to ride Point King to a second-place finish behind Just Fine in the Group 3 Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Kah had also been a contender to ride the fairytale South Australian stayer The Map in the Melbourne Cup 2024. However, with her commitment to Point King, trainers Dan Clarken and Oopy McGillivray will now need to find another jockey to partner The Map, who will carry 50kg in the race.
