Star jockey Jamie Kah will appear before the Victorian Racing Tribunal on Thursday to contest a charge related to her ride on Let’sfacethemusic in the McNeil Stakes on Memsie Stakes day. Kah is accused under AR129(2) of not giving the horse every opportunity for the best possible finish.
Representing Kah, Barrister Matthew Sterling has confirmed she will plead not guilty, arguing that Let’sfacethemusic is a difficult horse to control, often “locking its jaw” and veering unexpectedly. Sterling highlighted the challenging race conditions, including strong winds and shifting ground, and stated Kah acted cautiously due to safety concerns.
Stewards, led by Corie Waller, allege Kah failed to ride with sufficient vigor between the 175m and 100m marks and over the final 75m. However, Sterling contends that “the rule requires serious culpability” and insists Kah’s actions were justified in the interest of safety.
