The racing community is relieved to hear of Jamie Kah’s positive progress in hospital after her fall in the $300,000 Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last Saturday.
According to the update provided by Victorian Jockeys’ Association CEO Matthew Hyland on Wednesday evening, Kah is recovering well and will soon be transferred to one of the Royal Melbourne Hospital wards.
“Jamie is recovering well and is ready to be transferred to one of the Royal Melbourne Hospital wards. She is awake and speaking,” said the statement released on behalf of Kah’s family.
Kah and fellow rider Craig Williams both fell at the 1000-metre mark of the race last Saturday. Kah was in and out of consciousness for some time after the fall and suffered heavy concussion. However, doctors performed two brain scans on the 27-year-old and found no swelling or bleeding to her brain prior to her awakening from sedation on Monday evening.
Kah’s fans and the wider racing community have been eagerly awaiting news of her recovery, and the latest update offers some hope that she is on the path to a full recovery. With Kah’s transfer to a ward imminent, it is hoped that she will continue to make positive progress in her recovery.
