Gun jockey Jimmy Orman will be missing from the Queensland riding ranks for close to a three week period, in the first instance while taking up another opportunity to ride for the Michael Costa stable in Dubai, before taking a well-earned holiday in Japan.
“We spoke and Michael was always happy for me to come back again this year,” said Orman.
That’s hardly surprising given that Orman produced a rare day out at Jebel Ali when riding at the first couple of meetings of the season last year for Costa … the trainer/rider combination bringing home five of the seven winners at one particular meeting, the first time Orman had produced a fiver in his career.
Orman also ticked off a winner at the famed Meydan track during that visit.
“I love to go there more often, maybe one more time again this season. If he wants me to come, I’ll come,” volunteered Orman.
And if Costa were to make him a longer term offer?
“I don’t know. We would have to see, but that’s unlikely.
“He doesn’t need a stable jockey. He has got one already. I’m just happy to fly in and fly out whenever he needs me. I’m pretty happy here in Queensland to be honest.
“My first meeting there will be on October 26. I ride at Abu Dabi,” continued Orman. “Then on November 2, I ride at Jebel Ali … and on November 3, I ride at Abu Dabi … and then on November 8 I ride at Meydan.
‘When we finish that I’m going to go to Japan for four days for a holiday, so I’m going to be away for probably three weeks.”
Orman currently leads the Brisbane Metropolitan Jockey’s Premiership … a title he has held since the 2021/22 season. In two of those three Metropolitan title wins Orman produced over one hundred wins for the season.
