A jockey has been handed a six-month ban following his involvement in betting on horse races.
Dale Evans, a seasoned jockey with a remarkable career spanning 14 years and nearly 1,000 wins, underwent an inquiry in Queensland, Australia, prompted by information provided to stewards by two prominent betting operators.
Evans faced charges of misconduct under strict regulations that prohibit jockeys from participating in any form of betting on thoroughbred races worldwide.
During the hearing, it was revealed that Evans placed a total of 2,042 bets on races globally with bookmakers Neds and Ladbrokes between July and December 2023, including 47 bets on Australian races.
As a result of the investigation, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission suspended Evans from participating in races for six months.
The suspension is scheduled to commence in April, subsequent to the completion of a four-month ban previously imposed on Evans for not taking all necessary and permissible actions to ensure his mount achieved the best possible result in a race in December.
Evans retains the right to appeal the decision.
