Jockey Kate Walters is facing a three-month suspension after being found guilty of improper and insulting behaviour towards a stipendiary steward during a race at the Nhill races on Boxing Day.

Racing Victoria stewards recently concluded their inquiry, which had been ongoing since the third race at Nhill.

In a stewards’ report, it was stated, “Walters was found guilty of a charge of improper or insulting behaviour under AR 228 (c), which deals with conduct detrimental to the interests of racing, in that she engaged in improper and/or insulting behaviour towards a stipendiary steward.”

The penalty took into account various factors, including the nature of the comments made, Walters’ plea, her personal circumstances, and her prior record in relation to conduct offences.

As a result, Kate Walters’ racing license has been suspended for three months, starting immediately and concluding on Thursday, April 4, when she may ride again.

Walters received support from Victorian Jockeys Association CEO Matthew Hyland and licensed trainer Kane Post during the inquiry.
