Trainer John Leek Jnr is facing two charges after his galloper Fengarada returned a positive swab to the anti-inflammatory phenylbutazone.
The Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory confirmed the positive test, leading to Racing Victoria stewards charging Leek Jnr under AR 240 for prohibited substances.
The second charge under AR 104 concerning the keeping of treatment records will also be heard by the Victorian Racing Tribunal on a date to be fixed.
According to RV stewards, a urine sample was taken from Fengarada at Swan Hill on September 9 last year, before the scheduled race time, as the meeting had been abandoned due to inclement weather.
Leek Jnr expressed disappointment over the charges, maintaining that the horse had not been treated in the days leading up to the race.
