The Hayes family is considering a familiar strategy for their imported stayer Que Tempesta this spring, echoing David Hayes’ successful Metropolitan-Caulfield Cup double with Tawqeet in 2006. Ben Hayes, alongside brothers Will and JD, has set sights on The Metropolitan at Randwick on October 5 as a potential stepping stone to the Caulfield Cup on October 19.
Que Tempesta, who debuted in Australia with a promising fifth in the Listed Heatherlie Stakes at Caulfield, is set for his next challenge in the Naturalism Stakes over 2000m next week. Hayes was pleased with the gelding’s Heatherlie run and confirmed the horse is in good shape heading into his next race.
“The Metrop’s definitely an option,” Hayes said. “We were thrilled with his run in the Heatherlie, and he’s come through that very well.” Currently, Que Tempesta sits at $51 for the Metropolitan and $23 for the Caulfield Cup.
