Lloyd Williams is aiming for an eighth Melbourne Cup triumph, with the Victorian debuts of imports Post Impressionist and St Vincent’s Garden at Flemington on Saturday.
Post Impressionist, trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, won the Manion Cup at Rosehill but had issues in the G1 Tancred Stakes. He runs in the Inside Run Trophy (2540m), carrying 60kg with Damian Lane aboard. Williams said, “I think we can judge him on what he does on Saturday.” betting sites have him at $26 for the Melbourne Cup 2024.
St Vincent’s Garden, also with the Freedmans, makes his debut in the Benchmark 78 Spring Gala Plate (2000m). Co-owned with James Packer, Williams is hopeful: “He’s a nice horse, I like him. He can certainly stay.”
Williams also eyes the Cup with Changingoftheguard ($41) and Adelaide River ($34), both with Kris Lees. Confident in his lineup, Williams remains focused on the Melbourne Cup.
