The Ciaron Maher stable remains in the hunt for Australian Guineas honours with smart filly Another Prophet.
The daughter of Brazen Beau will take a step closer to realising those Group 1 aspirations over 1600m at Flemington on March 1 when she has her second run for the campaign in the Listed Desirable Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Victorious in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield against fillies last November to close out her spring campaign, Another Prophet resumed at Sandown on January 25, finishing a close up fourth to Royal Insignia who is the top elect in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.
Jack Turnbull, assistant trainer for Maher based out of Cranbourne, said he is looking forward to seeing Another Prophet back against the fillies on Saturday, despite the hefty impost of 59.5kg.
“She is the Thousand Guineas winner that returned against the boys in the Manfred Stakes and was very good at Sandown,” Turnbull said.
“She had a small amount of room on the fence and dashed up pretty well.
“We’re looking forward to seeing her out there again.”
Another Prophet will be joined by her Maher-trained stablemate Qatars Choice in Saturday’s race who will be having her first race start in Melbourne.
Qatars Choice has raced in Sydney exclusively prior to Saturday, winning a maiden at Warwick Farm first-up on New Year’s Day and then running second in benchmark 72 grade at Randwick on January 25.
“She is a lighter-framed horse but can gallop, and she had no luck last time,” Turnbull said.
“Hopefully they can both run well and continue through Stakes races, but we’re hoping to get Another Prophet to the Australian Guineas.”
