Mathew Ellerton making significant recovery after stroke

Scissor Step

Prominent horse trainer Mathew Ellerton is making remarkable progress in his recovery nearly four months after suffering a life-threatening stroke. His wife, Leah Ellerton, has shared positive updates, highlighting his resilience throughout the recovery process.

Ellerton’s leg strength has returned, and he is now walking well enough to resume his daily routine at the track, working with his horses. However, he continues to face challenges with his left shoulder and recently underwent an MRI to explore further treatment options. “The strength in his legs has returned… It’s allowed him to go into work every morning,” Leah said.

Ellerton is grateful for the outpouring of support from the racing community, which has helped him through this difficult time. A GoFundMe page raised $93,000 to assist with medical costs, including his medivac from Bali. “He’s looking forward to getting back to the races soon to thank everyone,” Leah added.

Ellerton remains focused on his recovery, with hopes of returning to the races soon.
