Melbourne Cup winner Without A Fight is nearing the final hurdle in his recovery from a tendon injury, according to his rehab guru Lee Evison.
“He is well and truly over halfway or probably more.” Evison, who has overseen the galloper since December, told Racing.com.
“When they do start to heal and heal well, the process can quicken up quite quickly, so right now he is in a good place.”
Evison, known for his patient approach, highlighted Without A Fight’s positive progress.
“He started off fantastic with his rehab and it (the tendon) settled down really quickly.”
“It then went through a little bit of a slow patch, but things are actually starting to pick up good for him.”
“One thing I have learnt is to be patient with these horses, you can’t force the issue.”
“They heal when they heal and we just have to make sure we keep the process as simple as we can and he heals as naturally and as well as he can.”
The champ boasts “a really good base fitness” thanks to daily jogs, ensuring a smooth transition back to trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman.
While a return date remains unknown, Without A Fight’s encouraging recovery has punters excited for his eventual comeback.
