Melbourne Cup winner gets a new jockey

Last years Melbourne Cup winner Almandin will have a new jockey for his 2017 Melbourne Cup campaign.

Champion jockey Damien Oliver announced today that he has secured the spot on the back of the 2016 Melbourne Cup winner during his Spring Carnival campaign.

Oliver was on the back of Almandin in his two lead up races to last years Melbourne Cup but it was Kerrin McEvoy who took the ride for the Cup.

The 7-year-old destroyed his rivals in the JRA Trophy at Flemington on Saturday with Oliver on board.

Damien Oliver announces on Racing Pulse that he has been booked for Almandin during the spring.
