Mystic Journey’s trainer Adam Trinder has hit back at trolls after receiving over 80 derogatory messages after his star mare ran second in the Makybe Diva Stakes on the weekend.
Following Mystic Journey’s second in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes Adam Trinder received abusive messages from anonymous sources via email, text and phone calls to the extent that he should ‘shoot’ the mare.
Speaking on RSN Trinder hit back at the trolls.
“They’re gutless people, they’re faceless people and they’re the type of people that won’t come and say it to your face. They’re happy to hide behind closed doors,” Trinder said on RSN.
“You get back home of an evening and listen to the voicemail and read the emails that have been sent through and it just leaves a really sour taste in your mouth.”
Trinder is no stranger to abusive messages as many in the industry are but he said these trolls took it too far by targeting his star mare.
“Unfortunately, we have got three facets of the industry,” Trinder said. “We’ve got the animal activists and we’ve got those in the industry that know how well these horses are treated.
“Then we go right to the other end of the spectrum where people have no care or regard for these beautiful animals.
“Money speaks all languages and that has probably aggravated people. They have viewed it as an easy assignment because they have believed their own thoughts that it was a case of turning up and going and winning.
“If you’re in the game for those reasons then you’re in the wrong game and you don’t have any understanding of racing.”
Mystic Journey remains the $5 favourite for the 2019 Cox Plate following the Makybe Diva Stakes which was won by WA galloper Gatting at $151/1.
